Rehabilitation is an important part of the complex treatment of patients with oncological diseases. In the past, the main concern for this type of patients was their very survival, but nowadays rehabilitation medicine aims to improve the quality of life during and after cancer treatment.

In order to achieve a high efficiency of rehabilitation, it is important that the specialized procedures start as early as possible. Very often, physical therapy is started in the preoperative period in order to facilitate the course of postoperative recovery. Rehabilitation procedures go through a diagnostic, surgical, radiation or medicinal, rehabilitation and restorative period, in which rehabilitation medicine takes a central place. A complex rehabilitation program following the specifics of the disease is prepared. It is composed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists. The place of the rehabilitator in the team is of essential meaning, where he, together with other specialists, composes and carries out therapeutic gymnastics and applies specialized kinesitherapeutic methods. Performs periodic tests, applies specialized rehabilitation equipment and performs prescribed electrotherapy procedures.

Rehabilitation has a fundamental and important role in modern oncology. Its function is strictly defined, dealing not only with the affected area, but also with the subsequent stages of the treatment.

The main task of physiotherapy in oncology is to contribute to the possibility of a quality recovery of the patient and the resumption of his daily activities.
